International Women’s Day
9 March, 2009 – 12:44 pmInternational Women’s Day is celebrated on 8th March every year and although it is already 9th March here in Malaysia, there are still some parts of the Western world that is still 8th March, 2009 even though they have just adjusted their clock today.

Out of curiosity, I went to Wikipedia to read what International Women’s Day is all about. Of course, I do know that basically, it celebrates and recognizes the achievements and breakthroughs of women around the world but I was also interested in its history and how it came about.
What surprised me was that in the long list of countries that observe this important day, Malaysia isn’t listed. Does this mean that Malaysia doesn’t recognize this day or does Malaysia not recognize the contribution of women towards the social, economic and political aspect of the country.
Hmmmm we do have Hari Wanita on 25th August but somehow it just doesn’t give us the same feel, does it? What do you think?
