Con Woman On The Prowl

21 February, 2009 – 1:36 pm

A couple of days ago, I was window shopping in Tesco Extra Ipoh and as I was walking along the car park on the way home, I saw a woman. Actually, this case happened sometime back but I did not mention it on any of my blogs but since this is the second time that I saw her, I am think I should sound an alert.

This case happened either on Chinese New Year eve or on the evening of the first day of Chinese New Year itself. I don’t remember exactly but I do remember that most of the tenants in Kinta City were closed for Chinese New Year celebrations.

My dad and I went to Kinta City at about 8pm on one of the days mentioned above. My dad parked the car, I alighted and waited for him at the porch as it was raining. Meanwhile, my dad made sure that all the doors and the boot were locked. Out came this lady from somewhere; maybe she was hiding behind a car or something. At that time, only my dad was out there by the cars.

Apparently, this woman told my dad a sob story about how she dropped her purse and needed RM10 to get home. My dad gave her RM5 just in case she really needed transport. So, we entered Kinta City and this woman followed us up the escalator. I was thinking to myself, “Eh, I thought that she wanted to go home?”

I thought that was the last I would see of her but then she appeared again in Tesco Extra a couple of nights ago at about 9pm. Tesco Extra is a place where if one does not have private transport, especially at that time of the night, it is pretty far to walk on foot but as I mentioned earlier, I was walking out to the car, and she was walking in! I never did see how she came, maybe she DID walk all the way here from wherever.

She recognized us just as we recognized her. However, we never acknowledged each other and in fact, she bent her head and continued walking PAST us. I figured that if she genuinely lost her purse that night in Kinta City, now seeing us again, she would have returned the money, right?

This woman, on both occasions, was wearing a tudung (head scarf) though she is Chinese and spoke Cantonese. She was wearing very plain button down blouse and knee length skirt; the kind of clothing that the modern nuns from my old Convent School wear. She also carried a medium sized dark coloured handbag. She dressed in the same style on both occasions so I gather this is her normal attire. In Kinta City that night, she was carrying a foam lunch box, which I take it was her dinner, but on the night in Tesco Extra, she did not have her dinner with her. Maybe it was already in her stomach. LOL

Now, I am not saying as if RM5 is a big amount but money is still money, right? I’m sure many of us have donated larger sums to charities. If this was a genuine case, I wouldn’t even have mentioned. So if you are around that area, perhaps you should look out for this woman.
